A net oil computer or NOC is an oil flow totalization Unit used in conjunction with a flow meter and water cut meter (bs&w monitor) to accurately measure and totalize the primary two phase components of the well flow stream The net oil computer is mainly concerned with the total volume of water and total volume of oil. There is normally an operator interface and the net oil computer can be user configurable to accommodate customer field equipment.

An important consideration for pipeline operators is that they are able to identify the amount of water in the oil stream at the point where the oil enters the pipeline for transportation to another user  for e.g refinery. 

BS&W is a common term in the oil industry and known well by engineers and laboratory personnel . In other places, oil field operators need to know the percentage of BS&W at the well head so they can optimize the extraction process and recycle the excess water for re-injection.

Two different models are available for high-cut and low-cut  applications.  All the sensing is done directly l  in the process stream and the EASZ-1 Watercut Monitor  measures the dielectric constant of the process fluid flowing in the line. The sensor converts dielectric properties into a current output and transmits this from the probe as a 4-20 mA signal proportional to water in oil percentage. The output can be utilized locally at a LACT unit or DCS system, or it can be transmitted some distance  to a control room or monitoring station.
