Why the EASZ-1 water in oil monitor is so critical to your lubrication system!

Departments involved in industrial maintenance need good data and reliability. The goal is to increase Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and when failures do occur, they want plenty of advance warning. Probably the best way to increase MTBF is to find and eliminate root causes of failure. This is proactive maintenance. In the lubrication industry ,water has been identified as a problematic source of contamination which in turn burdens engineers to find better and more economical ways to alleviate causes. One important method is to monitor for water in all its forms online. The forms water can appear can be saturated, water oil emulsions and free water which can go undetected if fast response monitoring is not employed.

The operational life of most industrial machinery is directly related to the contamination and chemistry of the lubricants. Water is a common contaminant that drastically increase wear rates and shortens machine life. Degraded oil, wrong oil, and inadequate lubrication are also significant contributors to early failures. Water can be one of the major causes of abnormal wear for industrial machines which can speed up the processes of abrasive wear, fatigue and corrosion.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ONLINE MONITORING?

More people are quickly understanding the value water in oil analysis and most industrial plants are doing some amount of testing. It is very common for industrial plants to leave responsibility for oil analysis to their oil supplier. A medium size paper mill could typically spend Euro 250,000 per year on lubricants. Many companies will negotiate free services and oil analysis from the lubricant supplier.

Off-site lab oil analysis and on-site minilab oil analysis are both capable of finding root causes and predicting wear related failures so long as good samples are collected and correct testing is done. However, many plants send out ten to twenty samples a month and consider they have an acceptable oil analysis program. This can be a false sense of security. There is no way that an industrial plant maintenance department can adequately monitor the condition of lubricated machinery with so few samples.

Whether your plant is a paper mill, automobile assembly plant, chemical plant, steel mill, food processing plant, or a power plant, you will find plenty of need for water in oil monitoring. Each of these diverse plants require hundreds of oil-lubricated machines including gearboxes, pumps, motors, engines, hydraulics, processing machines, rolls, fans, turbines, and compressors. In general you will find a need to analyze 100 to 200 samples per month at most industrial plants. For an integrated steel mill or large mining operation it will take 1000 or more samples per month to do the same. An online water in oil monitor costs a fraction of continual sampling costs and is a further means of protecting your machinery.

The EASZ-1 is an immediate response online water in oil monitoring system that measures as low as 100ppm water in oil in 1 second and as high as 250,000 ppm . It can be zero calibrated to any type of oil in use and is an affordable instrument. Obviously manufacturers will keep up their sampling programs but considering the sometimes enormous manpower and expenses required and the time lag between samples an online monitoring system gives added assurance that any water , whether dissolved, emulsified or free passing through the lines are being detected. Purchases a good particle counter , also consider purchasing a reliable water in oil detector that requires virtually no maintenance, that is stable and able to report water as soon as it appears!
